How to Appear Offline in League of Legends (2026 Methods)

League still has no native invisible mode. The two ways that actually work — Deceive and the firewall method — plus what your friends see, what breaks, and the honest caveats.

Sometimes you want to play without the duo invite, the "1 more?", or the ex-duo watching your match history live. League still has no native appear-offline toggle — but two methods genuinely work in 2026. Here they are, with the trade-offs stated plainly.

Method 1: Deceive (the standard)

Deceive is a small open-source tool (free, on GitHub) that sits between the League client and Riot's chat servers and simply doesn't register your presence. To everyone on your friends list you look offline; you queue, play, and climb normally.

  1. Download the latest release from the official Deceive GitHub page (only there — copies elsewhere are how you get malware).
  2. Close League fully, run Deceive, and it launches the client for you.
  3. A tray icon lets you flip between offline, mobile, and online mid-session.

The honest caveats: it's a third-party program, which is technically gray zone — but it only touches chat presence, has been public for years with no ban wave, and Riot has quietly tolerated it. Still, "tolerated" is not "endorsed"; that's your risk to weigh. It also occasionally lags a patch behind after big client updates.

Method 2: The firewall block (no third-party software)

Block the client's chat traffic yourself: create an outbound Windows Firewall rule that blocks the League client's chat port range (5223 TCP is the classic), and chat — including your presence — never connects. You appear offline; everything else works. It's fiddlier to set up and to undo, and a client update can move the target, but nothing third-party ever runs.

What appearing offline does and doesn't hide

The question under the question

Worth naming: a lot of appear-offline sessions are "I'm tilted/tired and don't want witnesses" sessions. Fair — but if you're hiding tonight's games from your friends, it's worth three minutes to check whether you should be playing them at all. Our free readiness check gives you an honest verdict against your own baseline; sometimes the best invisible mode is not queueing.

Honesty note: readiness is a probabilistic personal signal, not a win predictor — and training sharpens the skills you drill, which your ladders measure. Nothing here promises LP.
